This is how we get more progressive legislation. Not by taking your ball and going home when you don’t get everything, but by continuing to play.

WATCH: Rick Santorum struggles to explain why Ivanka Trump shouldn’t be investigated like Hilary Clinton for using private emailhttps://t.co/YGVY0Kpqkn
— Raw Story (@RawStory) November 20, 2018
“To sort of ignore the obvious differences here is a little hypocritical. Hillary Clinton went out and established her own server in full knowledge that what she was doing was wrong,” Santorum said.
He added, “There’s a big difference between what Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, was doing and what Ivanka Trump is accused of.”
Foamy seems to have (conveniently) forgotten that Hillary’s position and that of her lawyers was that when she set up her server, everybody she asked said it was kosher to do so. And that using private emails for government business was something past Secretaries had done when in office.
The level of his ignorance is off the hook. What a maroon. I keep saying to SWMBO, “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard a President of the United States say!”, and then he keeps flapping his pie hole. It’s just embarrassing to be an American.
Night all. Sweet dreams. See you tomorrow.

I saw some video of what started the crash at the Macau Grand Prix and is video looking down the straight from the turn she eventually flew up into.
I think there is some question as to why she hit the other car to start her skid out of control. Did the driver in front of her she hit lets up or have a mechanical problem.
She lost the wheel and it pitched 180 backwards into the wall. So, no braking at all. She was on a ride at that point.
The the car she hit didn’t even know it was coming. And she was launched off his wheel.

it’s one thing to have political ambition, and that in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing…
its another thing to place that ambition ahead of the needs of the nation and without a shred of recognition of who exactly has done the heavy lifting of the party for the last two years, who has earned the political victories earlier this month and also completely ignore who is raising money for the political renaissance from which he hopes to co-opt.
If I lived in that district, I’d be happy to run against this asshat as he appears to be devoid of any political awareness and any ability to gauge the political tenor of the nation.
This man is a clueless stumblefuck.
In case you can’t see the video, here’s a transcript of Moulton’s self-immolation:
You know someone told me the story recently of Margaret Thatcher. Sort of the same, you know different system of government, but same sort of thing where you know go to the floor of Parliament to get the votes to be elected prime minister. She had served several terms, and then a lot of people said “you know Prime Minister it’s time for a change” and she said “No, no I’m gonna stick with it.” And then they said “Well Prime Minister you don’t have votes,” and she said “No it doesn’t I’m gonna go to I’m go to the floor and drag this out, I’m gonna twist arms and I’m gonna get the vote anyway.” So she did that. So she went to the floor and she twisted arms, and she didn’t have the votes. And they elected a new prime minister and everything went on and people were excited about the new prime minister and that’s okay.
Whoever told him that story lied to his ass. Prime Ministers are not elected by the whole of Parliament, they’re elected by their party behind closed doors by the party membership. Party Leaders serve until they resign, die, or lose a no-confidence vote. And they only become Prime Minister if their party wins a majority in the General Elections or can manage to cobble together a coalition gov’t. It’s also why Prime Ministers who feel they’re in a tough spot because of inter-party squabbling might call a General Election, as a successful election might not only shore up their own position, but also cost their opponents their seats.

re: #63 HappyWarrior
True true. Man I’m just infuriated by the naked hypocrisy of these assholes. They treated HRC like the worst criminal ever over this and did countless hearings but the Republicans are going to act like it’s no big deal simply to appease the Orange piece of shit.
hypocrisy doesnt work with this crowd, they dont care
they used it against clinton as a campaign tactic and it sure worked
with an assist from a soon to be totally neutered press
when turned against themselves there are always…..reasons… why it’s different, shouldnt matter, doesn’t apply

Shows me how crappy our news media is. Before the tweet loaded, I assumed it was the side by side pictures of the front page Hillary Emailghazigate coverage vs. the page 13 ohmygerd the mean Dems are going to investigate Ivanka for emails coverage in the NY Times.
This is the ass who repeatedly lied about Hillary’s e-mails in the Screw York Times.

Yeah i know. Yeah I had a problem with the President who cynically used opposition to gay marriage among Evangelical bigots to get himself re-elected. I had a problem with the President who lied us into Iraq. I had a problem with the President that despite the virtues of all those MBAs you tell us about got us into the worst economic recession of my lifetime. I had a problem with the President who lied about us torturing people. So yeah NRO I did despise Bush. You’re right. You totally got me. I’ll take my record over yours in recent history. i have a problem with any president who does not believe in liberty and justice for all
- who does not act to demonstrate that we are one country
- where everyone matters and has equal standing
- regardless of any attempt at categorization (‘race’, religion, gender, political views, economic status, age, location, lineage….
re: #75 William Lewis
Thank you for that video. I was reporting what I had read and I doubt that version now. I hope she heals well but I wonder if Formula 3 wasn’t a bit too high level for her at this point? Still if racing is her dream, I hope to see her in the F1 someday.
I still want to know if the guy she was following did something that ended up causing her to run into him to knock he wheel off to start that spin. It seemed to be too early for the braking zone even if he was braking way too early. So, it comes down to mechanical or she misjudged his speed compared to hers, but that seems odd.
The driver of the car she launched off of was damn lucky. There are images of his car and her real wheel came right up the side of his cockpit opening and there was tire scuff marks and damage on the roll bar. Which means she just missed his head.
Hopefully she has a full recovering and can drive again if she so desires.

I hear you about the lines and that Desert Storm isn’t as black and white as history makes it out to be but Kuwait’s sovereignty was violated by Iraq. FWIW I agree completely given that Reagan-Bush strongly armed Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war. Russia uses the fact that Ukrainian land is historically part of what we call Russia to justify their actions there. Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are planning on looking into Ivanka Trump’s use of a personal email account to determine whether she violated federal law.

I’m not saying he was a good President. I was talking about how his administration dealt with criticism. None of this “fake news” bullshit or making opponents out to be unpatriotic as we have seen with Trump and with his son. But if I want to give him some kudos: Americans with Disabilities Act, Clean Air Act, Justice Souter, did a good job with the end of the Cold War, wasn’t afraid to do the right wing with a tax increase, and his FP was considerably better than Reagan or his son or Trump’s.

He felt threatened by those kids being Black and Muslim. Even if he was doing it as a way to scare and harass them, he still did it because he is threatened by their mere existence.

And given how imperfection our judicial system is, it wouldn’t favor a black person if the roles were reversed. TBH part of the reason why I support gun control is related to the history of race in this country. This guy isn’t going to get much time but if he were a black guy threatening white kids, it would be on FNC, it would be being tweeted about by Trump and the other RW douchebags, but because it’s a white guy threatening black kids, yeah he’ll probably get some jail time but not enough IMO.

don’t get me started…cause i gotta go out soon…
my goal is to reduce the number of shootings. can’t stop them all
- certainly cant stop the next mass shooting nut
- and for some reason, gun holders will not self-separate themselves from the obvious dangerous people - so they are all lumped together to their own detriment
the only rule is their rule: control your weapon at all times (carrying, use, storage, transfer, sale, transportation, whatever)
start with the low hanging fruit
- anyone who demonstrates he can’t control his weapon as above, hit ‘em hard
- take people’s finances, freedom and future, enough times and maybe other people will be more careful
- and maybe just maybe the actual ‘responsible’ ones will start to see that we can cull the really scary people from the herd without endangering their own 2A rights
but they wont even do that. what they really want is the right without any responsibility or culpability no matter what

I would suggest looking at it slightly differently. We have a constitutional (actually an above-constitutional) right to be safe, otherwise our rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are taken away. The right to bear arms does not extend to violating other peoples rights to their own person. That is it’s limit, and any attempts to extend it beyond that - which is what whites have been doing for a long time, and why Scalia the the other conservatives weakened the second amendment’s restrictions - needs to be forcefully defined as unconstitutional. There is no separation between our rights to life and the other rights.

Great points, thanks.
And just to be clear, there’s a reasonableness standard to all of this. My right to be not threatened by your guns does not extend to me walking around dressed like a deer in the forest during hunting season, nor does it extend to you properly handling your gun on the way to and from a gun range.

Based on my professional opinion (and it IS professional….I do financial capacity estimates of potential donors to large philanthropic organizations), I see nothing except all the financial markers of a lower middle class family (mid-middle class at best). You can hide assets, of course, but even those leave markers and I just don’t see them here.

Also according to WaPo, “some aides” are worried because holy shit, she did a LOT OF EMAILS on this private domain, and Ivanka’s reaction to these revelations is apparently like “What?”
These people needn’t worry, or at least they need to get off the Trump cult sauce for a second and remember that Donald Trump’s supporters don’t actually care if Hillary Clinton is the world’s greatest email monster, and will not suddenly have a light bulb happen in their brain come on when they realize Ivanka is doing the same damn thing. They are not those kinds of people, by which we mean the kinds of people who are physically able to process normal brain thoughts.

1) misogynistic bulkshit trying to shame AOC.
2) her apparent wealth is closer to what her constituents face than most everyone else in Congress, so she’d be more likely to be attuned to the needs of poor and struggling working class.
3) media keeps playing up the right wing narratives where possible.I’ve seen some reports claiming that AOC lied about her background and what have you, but haven’t seen anything substantive one way or another. My guess is that it’s just the usual smear campaign (except this is coming from both the left and right).

Oh, and, based on my sister-in-law who’s definitely a conservative, one way to make some inroads with these woman is to point out the lies and attacks that women like AOC are receiving. When I told my SIL that AOC talked to the group outside Pelosi’s office - rather than it being set up by her like the media kept implying - and mentioned that there are men on both sides that are trying to prevent women from being in power, I could see a little spark go off.
If Alexandria were giving CNBC and giving Paul Ryan’s views on capitalism, she’d be treated like a Horatio Alger character by the right but because she’s actually honest about the pitfalls of the vision of capitalism that has prevailed too long in this country, they mock her clothing, they mock that she’s not loaded financially, they mock that she has a hard time getting a place. I have some different views than her on the economy but gladly I stand with her.

Everything AOC is doing is being put under a microscope. I get that - her win in the primary was huge, and defeated a longtime incumbent. She’s using that platform to her advantage, and that has the usual suspects uneasy.
I don’t have to agree with her on everything, but that she’s got the rich white guys attacking her suggests that she’s doing something right.

Let’s have an amendment: the financial balance a politician has when they first enter federal office must be equal on their final statement when they leave their last office. No profit allowed or they forfit retirement, healthcare, all other benefits and are barred from lobbying directly or indirectly.
By the same token, pay must include. Housing, clothing and food allowancs and pure public financing of elections is needed as well.

Meh. I expect anyone who’s getting a six figure salary (and particularly one who has a working spouse) to make a little money while on the job. I expect them to sock away a little bit for retirement. The financial idea won’t work.

Advise and consent is an integral part of the checks and balances. Federalist 76 (Hamilton, of course, since he worked non… stop) also weighs on on this Congressional power to limit the president and keep him from packing the executive and courts with unqualified hacks.
Trump wants people to act as though he can ignore advise and consent, which raised the question why any president would go through that process on their picks.
That’s the effect of what Trump’s arguing in claiming Whitaker doesn’t need confirmation.
If the courts uphold Trump’s stance, then advise and consent is dead for all intents and purposes - except when the GOP can block a Democratic president’s nominations to the courts (Merrick Garland can’t be reached for comment).
Every day the GOP and Trump degrade the rule of law, the institutions they inhabit, and push their power over nation at every instance.

It is NYC after all, where we’ve made a science of looking like you spend a whole lot more than you do.
I love all the clothing/finance experts that emerge, like legal scholars, who suddenly know how much something costs and who should or shouldn’t be able to wear it for a period of time.

Don’t see Gerald Ford in there.
Ford played center, linebacker, and long snapper for the school’s football team and helped the [Michigan] Wolverines to two undefeated seasons and national titles in 1932 and 1933. In his senior year of 1934, the team suffered a steep decline and won only one game, but Ford was still the team’s star player.

Do you want WWIII?!?!? Or sky high gas prices?!?!?!!?
Goddamnit.
That’s an obnoxious alt-right skidmark called Chuck Johnson. Used to run Little Green Footballs. Deep ties to Bannon, Cernovich, various white supremacist groups.

NO! Chuck Johnson had nothing to do with Little Green Footballs, and in fact I’ve been exposing his ties to Nazis and other creeps for years. Chuck C. Johnson is NOT ME.

I truly will not be surprised when we learn that the #trump administration was aware of the plans to murder #khashoggi beforehand. I really won’t. #trump #criminalenterprise

We’ll never know what really happened. Your lazy ass didn’t even bother listening to the tape because while you talk tough, you’re a chickemshit coward who can’t deal with real carnage.

“We’ll never really know what happened and hey what about due process and also HILLARY IS CORRUPT LOCKER UP WE KNOW ALL ABOUT THE CLINTON FOUNDATION AND GEORGE SOROS AND BENGHAZI!!!”
Probably been said already been said already, but Raking in Finland is a rather good band name. They could call their debut album “A Weird Lie About Raking in Finland”.

I think it was Brennan on The 11th Hour with Brian Williams who actually defended Trump on this: The conversation was all in Arabic so Trump would not be able to understand what was discussed or actually happening. A transcript translated into English would be the appropriate document for him.
re: #282 jaunte
These fucking people.
You want to see us lose $150 billion dollar arms deal? Don’t you want to MAGA?!?!?!

Still think he should have listened if he’s going to declare we don’t know what happened. He may know not Arabic but he should know tension.

Damn good ‘copter pilot. Amazing work those guys are doing. I hope they stay safe so they can help even more people and pets.
That brings back memories. I was dusted off in Nam with a minor injury from an IED, along with a more seriously injured comrade. In the air, the crew chief hollered to me that they were making another pick up, a heat exhaustion casualty from a different outfit operating in the same valley. They were on a steep, brushy, hillside. No way to land the chopper - the pilot hovered with the rotor tips nearly clipping the bushes on the uphill side while his pals shoved him in through the side door.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again ad infinatum: you can’t wave the confederate flag of treason or claim fealty to the Confederacy in any way or form - and still refer to yourself as a “patriot” in ANY capacity.
When did the party of Lincoln decide it was just dandy to side with the very confederate traitors he fought? #AskingForAFewHundredMillionFriends pic.twitter.com/PbUIPy9tbd

i guess this is why I do give Jen credit. I know we rightfully have a lot of skepticism of Never-Trumpers like Jen but I think she’s better than most of them who will offer a tepid criticism and attempt at rationalization. She’s also called out the entire GOP not just Trump.
They all ought to do the same. But don’t forget that she helped build this. They all did. This usurpation of power did not happen in a vacuum. The GOPers who tore down Obama at every turn (and Clinton before him, as they could) helped pave the way for what is happening now.
